Tim, thanks for pointing that out! I forgot to mention that part in the tutorial. You need to make sure that all users have the comments.can_moderate permission, which can be done by creating a 'User' group that has the comments.can_moderate permission and then subscribing all users to that group. I will update the tutorial later.

Thanks for posting this - this has gone a long way toward helping me resolve my problem! However, I still have one obstacle. When the request is forwarded to the "official" moderation delete view, there is authentication there as well that trumps what you are doing in the mod_comments delete. Specifically, there is a decorator which checks for the "comments.can_moderate" permission. Did you encounter this obstacle as well and if so, how did you overcome it? I am hesitant to remove this check from the django.contrib.comments.moderation view but will if it's the only option.

Actually, comment utils have not been updated to be 1.0 compatible. I already use it for automatic comment moderation, but the rest of the code is made specific for old comments framework.

I hope the new framework soon will get some love. :)

Jarek, yeah, I had the same feeling. I'm guessing there will be considerable post-1.0 changes to the comments framework. At least it's a lot less messier than it used to be. It might be worth checking out James Bennet's django-comment-utils, but I'm not sure how updated it is.

I use similar approach with new comments framework customization, but this seems to me ugly. I had to wrap all built-in comment views and provide my own templates, including comment form (hey, the strings there are not marked for translation!).

Anyway, thank you, at least now I know I am not alone here. :)
